CHRISTIAN YOUTH CAMP.
WHY A CHRISTIAN YOUTH CAMP?
Before now, the activities of the youths have been restricted to walled church environment, colleges, campuses and rented quarters of the president of the Young Generation Christian Ministries, Evangelist Phillip Ogbonnaiye. Without any doubt, this restriction has impeded their self expression in positive ways.
It was therefore, expedient that a permanent base should be established for a Christian youth camp at Lokoja, the state capital. If this objective is fully accomplished it will enhance better planning of programmes and appropriate activities for the youths.
There is no doubt that this type of programme is long overdue for the youth of this state considering the restive nature of the youths of our generation against the background of high rate of unemployment culminating in alarming crime rate and waywardness.
ACQUISITION OF A LARGE PLOT OF LAND FOR THE YOUTH CAMP
A large plot of land has been acquired at Zango-Daji village, about 5 kilometers from the Army Barracks and not far from Okene-Lokoja-Abuja highway. All necessary papers including Certificate of Occupancy, Environmental Impact assessment Report, Building plans etc for the proposed Christian Youth camp also have been obtained.
When the project is completed, there will be male and female hostels that will accommodate over 2400 youths, quarters for staffers, a big conference hall that will take at least 5000 youths, games facilities, provision of water and electricity among other critical needs of such camp. DEVELOPMENT ON THE YOUTH CAMP
Presently, work is on going on the auditorium. Viewing the hall capacity critically and considering the little resources available, we started to develop the hall phase by phase. A wing out of the hall is to be completed before the end of 2016.
Meanwhile, the hall has been roofed and doors fixed. Apart from the annual Programs of the ministry, other Christian organizations now use the camp ground and hall regularly.
